Live and Online

Posted: 15th July 2019

With the announcement of lockdown during COVID-19 Stormont School had already begun to plan for an uncertain future.  Live online lessons were put in place for the whole school including assemblies so that teachers could keep in touch with the pupils.  It has to be said that there was a lot of online learning for the teachers and Senior Leadership Team but with dogged determination Stormont School pulled together.  Each week the live lessons increased, every child was issued a secure email address so that work could be issued and returned to be marked by the class teacher.  When the good news came that Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 could return we welcomed them with open arms (but not literally due to social distancing).  It was so lovely to see the girls and for them to see their teachers.   With lots of planning and discussions and a huge amount of work, Stormont School rose to the challenge and although we didn’t have to bring the whole school back, we felt the decision was right.  We anted to give the girls (and parents) some structure and to finish an extraordinary term on a high.  We had 90% attendance which was outstanding.

We even managed an online concert and Prize Giving!

Au Revoir

Posted: 15th July 2019

What an extraordinary term, not the one we planned or are used to but we know that our Year 6 girls are resilient and have had the best start at Stormont School.  We are proud of their achievements and will miss them greatly but it is a time to spread your wings and enjoy the coming years at your new school.  How exciting?

We improvised together in this crazy time with bubbles and direction arrows, signs all over and how much hand gel can a girl use?    We will see you again and say goodbye properly as it is only an au revoir for now.      Your adaptation to home schooling, to Zoom lessons and a reverse request to log in and sit in front of a screen has been interesting.  The online concert and Prize Giving was a first, you have been amazing.  Who would have known that #judgerinder would have a special message for our Year 6 Stormont girls!

Enjoy the summer and we look forward to meeting up really soon.

On Reflection

Posted: 15th July 2019

Having come to the end of the summer term, Stormont now looks ahead to the start of the next academic year.  Lots of improvements and maintenance will be taking place in the coming weeks during the summer break.   We also wait news from the Government about how education will look but we are confident that we will deliver a full curriculum for the girls.  On reflection it does make one realise how adaptable we all are, how resilient we are.   Stormont has always provided excellent education and during COVID-19 provided above and beyond support and creative learning where other schools did not.  It is testament to the Senior Leadership Team and the teachers and staff involved.   Our school has amazing facilities and at its heart is the welfare and education of all the girls.
