In the Early Years Foundation Stage it is paramount that the girls are happy, as effective learning will not be achieved unless they love coming to school.
Our main aim is a rounded education for all girls, where the academic, social, emotional, physical and spiritual are all promoted. We use labelled praise and plenty of rewards to celebrate success. Girls quickly learn our 3 Golden Rules and feel happy and secure as they have clear boundaries. We achieve high academic standards and forge close links with parents having regular meetings and supporting the next step in their educational ladder.
Initially the day is similar to a nursery setting with predominantly child-initiated play; gradually more specific adult-led activities are introduced. These activities are led by the form teacher or subject specialists. Girls are taught PE, French, Art, Pottery, Computing, Drama and Music by specialist teachers. There are three members of staff in Reception, and one remains with the girls when they are taught by a specialist to ensure there is a familiar face.
As the time for our annual Harvest Festival arrives, the girls have gained enough in confidence to perform a song. By Christmas they are fully involved in a Nativity production and by the Spring Term they are able to perform their own class assembly.
