School Council

The School Council at Stormont School is a forum where every child matters and every voice is heard; during their time at the school, all girls have the opportunity to represent their form. There are two representatives from each form on the Council.

The School Council meets twice termly and is chaired extremely effectively by the Form Six House Captains. It is their responsibility to ensure all girls arrive promptly for the meeting, to help generate discussions and to write up the minutes afterwards. Each girl’s opinion is valued and it is a great opportunity for all to develop their skills of public speaking and formulating their own opinions. Topics discussed recently have included: how to make the best use of the outdoor space, strategies to ensure happy playtimes for everyone, fund-raising plans for the charity that year and ideas for extra equipment needed in the school.

Stormont School is a listening community and all ideas are communicated to the wider Stormont family for reflection and discussion. As well as the girls having a sense of ownership over decisions that are subsequently made, who knows: we may well be helping to nurture the lawyers, MPs and decision-makers of the future!
