World Book Day
World Book Day
What a great week we had celebrating World Book Day! We were honoured to have a visit by the author Helen Peters, who held workshops with Years 3, 4 and 5 on writing animal rescue stories, and delivered a writing workshop on writing timeslip stories. She led an assembly with Reception, Y1 and 2 on how a book is made.
The travelling book library arrived for the week, and the girls were delighted to go book shopping from the wide range of books available to them.
We held a competition for the girls to decorate a wooden spoon in a character of their choice. From Paddington to dragons, princesses to Pinocchio, the creativity and effort of the girls was inspiring! Congratulations to the winning entries from Ningthibi in Y2 and Lola in Y6. Both girls received a book badge to wear, and their choice of an item from the Travelling Book Fair. Well done to Hanne in Reception and Eloise in Y5 who, as runners up in the competition, received a special book badge.
On World Book Day, we were delighted to see the school come alive with character costumes! Both the girls and staff dressed as a range of characters from a large variety of books. Our catering team hosted a World Book Day themed lunch, and there were activities throughout the day dedicated to books and a love of reading.
Finally, our Stormont Parents Association ran a pre-loved book shop for the girls, giving them an opportunity to purchase second hand books following a school wide book donation. This was a very popular event and the girls were thrilled to take some new books home to read over the weekend!
