Academic
At Stormont, we believe education should do far more than prepare children for tests. It should help them discover who they are, how they learn best, and how they can contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
Our curriculum is rooted in a liberal arts approach to learning: rich in language, creativity, critical thinking and curiosity. From Reception to Year 6, carefully planned cross-curricular links help children make meaningful connections across subjects, ideas and experiences. Learning is not fragmented into isolated topics; it is woven together to create depth, relevance and memorable learning.
We teach to ability, not age. Every child is known as an individual learner and challenged at the level that is right for them. We believe there should be no ceiling on ambition and no limits placed on potential. Children are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, reflect on their progress and develop confidence in themselves as thinkers, creators and communicators.
Learning at Stormont is active, engaging and full of purpose. There are no endless worksheets here! Instead, our teachers design lessons with creative hooks, inspiring texts, exciting authors and meaningful real-world connections that spark curiosity and imagination. Historic and current role models are woven throughout the curriculum, helping children see themselves in the stories they study and the futures they imagine.
Alongside academic rigour, we place great importance on developing the whole child. Life skills, collaboration, resilience, communication and emotional intelligence are embedded throughout school life. Children learn to articulate their ideas with confidence through debating, discussion and critical thinking. From Year 3 onwards, verbal and non-verbal reasoning are explicitly taught, alongside interview technique and higher-order thinking skills, ensuring pupils are exceptionally well prepared for 11+ examinations and future academic challenge.
Most importantly, we want children to love learning. We want their school experience to be filled with discovery, challenge, creativity and joy. The kind of learning that stays with them long after they leave the classroom.
