We celebrated the start of the World Cup with Monster Kickabout – organising a day packed with football activities, led by two inspiring female players. Goalkeeper Mia Leclerc, who signed for Millwall Lionesses FC last season, opened the event with an engaging assembly, sharing her journey from Canada to professional football and demonstrating key goalkeeping techniques, including safe landing when diving. Pupils then took part in a series of skill-building sessions focused on teamwork, confidence and enjoyment of the game.

In the afternoon, St Alban’s Ladies FC forward Millie Constantine (who will join Stormont as a staff member in the autumn term), put the girls through energetic training sessions, challenging them to develop their skills in a fun and supportive environment. The day highlighted the school’s strong commitment to sport while leaving pupils inspired by the opportunity to learn from elite athletes.

Former England midfielder Jack Wilshere, now manager of Luton Town FC, also visited the school earlier in the month to deliver a football skills workshop for Stormont pupils. Children received top tips while practised dribbling, passing and shooting drills.

Michelle Kirbyshire-Rowe, Head of PE, said “We have worked really hard to embed football into our curriculum since the Lionesses’ Euros success in 2022 and we now offer more opportunities for girls to play and compete. It has been fantastic to partner with Monster Kickabout and welcome such exciting visitors to the school. These events have further inspired our pupils and encouraged their love of the game.”
