Maths

Mathematics underpins the world around us and plays a vital role in our culture and civilisation.  Developing a solid understanding of the core principles of mathematics
will provide children with essential life skills.

The Mathematics curriculum is delivered by class teachers from Reception to Year 3. In Year 4 they are taught in half classes by both the Maths specialist teacher and the class teacher. During Years 5 and 6 the girls are taught by the Maths specialist teacher in half classes and smaller groups. Stormont girls take part in a variety of national Maths Competitions as well as participating in competitions and challenges hosted by other schools.

At Stormont Maths is taught in such a way as to engage, interest and inspire, offering support and challenge giving each girl the opportunity to reach their full potential. Mathematics lessons throughout the school work on improving the girls’ fluency as well as teaching them how to reason, problem solve, question, estimate and extend their own learning.

You don't have to be a mathematician to have a feel for numbers.
