‘Celebration of the Arts’ Event

Posted: 10th March 23

What an amazing evening we had last night with our ‘Celebration of the Arts’ event! This is the second year we have held this event, bringing together all the arts that we offer at Stormont in one evening for our families to see what the girls are achieving. Families were treated to an art exhibition in our Pearson Hall, with a wide range of artwork, pottery, textiles and DT that the girls have produced this school year.

Across our music studio, Pre-Prep area and library our families were entertained by girls playing their musical instruments, ranging from piano, violin, guitar, recorder through to the African drums! A selection of girls showed their singing skills, either soloists, duets or trios. Our LAMDA class showcased their individual presentations, and some of our Year 5’s performing their English Speaking Board pieces which they have been practicing ready for their exam next week. We also had on display our salsa club, and some of our parents even joined in and had a go! How brilliant!

Finally, our sports hall was the scene of some of our dancing and gymnastics displays. Our Pre-Prep ballet class were excited to perform to parents, showing how much they have learnt in their ballet class this year. We were also treated to a gymnastics display from our Prep girls, culminating in our award winning girls showing their individual gymnastic routines.

We wish to congratulation all our girls for their contributions to the event last night. It was a fantastic celebration of everything the girls do at Stormont, from artwork, pottery, drama, singing, music, performing and more! We were delighted to share this with the families of the school, who were just as proud of their girls as we were! For more details of the event please visit our social media pages: Facebook – Stormont School, and Instagram: @Stormont_School and @Stormont_SchoolArts.

IAPS National Netball Finalists!

Posted: 14th February 23

Congratulations to our Year 6 U11 netball team who have made it to the finals of the IAPS National ‘Bee’ Netball Competition.  ‘Bee’ Netball requires all players to rotate every half, meaning they had to play all positions throughout the tournament. On Friday 3rd February, our U11 Netball Team played in the regional round in Essex and were placed in a group with Kensington Prep, St Aubyn’s, Felsted and Chigwell. We won all of our games and made the quarter finals against NLCS. The girls met Kensington Prep again in the final, but this time narrowly losing by 2 goals.  Finishing as Runners Up in the Cup Competition meant our U11 had qualified for the IAPS National Finals which will be held in Rugby in March! This was a superb result for a superb effort from our girls. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the parents and Miss Sobell who came to support us, we are very grateful to you all.

England Player Football Coaching Comes to Stormont!

Posted: 14th February 23

To celebrate the ESFA School’s Football week our PE department led a week of footballing activities for girls across the school. Our Pre-Prep girls enjoyed the February sunshine and learnt football skills, practicing their kicking and dribbling technique.

The highlight of the week were our coaching sessions from ex-England and premiership league football players Jack Wilshere and Kieran Richardson for years 4, 5 and 6!  We were excited to invite some boys from Lochinver House School to join us, which they were thrilled about! Year 5 had a brilliant session from Jack Wilshere who is an ex-England and Arsenal player and currently the Arsenal U18 Head Coach. In the session he used his experience to share valuable coaching, organising various football drills and ending with game play. The children all came away very inspired to learn more about the game.

Years 4 and 6 were excited to have Kieran Richardson run a coaching session with them. Kieran is an experienced player, having played for England, Manchester United, Sunderland, Fulham and Aston Villa. He ran a great coaching session for the girls and Lochinver House School boys, sharing with them his knowledge and tactics which culminated in games in which they practiced things they had learnt.

The girls are also entering designs for the front cover of ‘The Women’s Football Magazine’, with the hope of getting their design published on an edition later this year.

We would like to thank Jack and Keiran for their time, coaching tips, and their inspiring words to the future generation of both women’s and men’s football! If you would like to see videos and photos of the coaching, these are available on our sports instagram page @stormont_schoolsports.

Lego, Singing and Sport!

Posted: 3rd February 23

We have had an action packed week at Stormont! To celebrate International Lego Day we were excited to welcome Mr Sobell in to speak in our assembly about his job at Lego. His assembly was very interactive and informative, with all the girls learning that Lego are the biggest producers of tyres in the world! It has also inspired a generation of ‘Master Builders’ when he confirmed that the majority of the senior positions in the Lego company were held by women, which is building on our term’s theme of ‘Celebrating Women’, showcasing to the girls that the world is their oyster!

Our Year 5 girls took part in the Haileybury Choral competition on Monday against 8 other schools. They spent the afternoon involved in musical workshops, which culminated in the final competition, where they sang their Latin song beautifully. Thank you to Haileybury School for hosting the event and allowing us to be part of the competition.

The School has also been involved in various sporting activities, including running and flier netball. A team of our U9 and U11 girls travelled to Beechwood Park School for a Cross Country event. With over 380 runners in three age groups, it was a huge event and incredibly well organised. Our girls performed very well and should feel incredibly proud of their achievements. A special mention also for two of our U9 runners who finished in 9th place and 13th place! Congratulations to them and to all the girls competing! Our U9 Stormont team finished 5th overall and our U11 Stormont team finished 9th overall.

Christmas at Stormont!

Posted: 8th December 22

As we come towards the end of term, things have definitely not been winding down for the girls! The School is full of Christmas spirit with the girls taking part in a wide range of events and activities!

Our Pre-Prep girls put on a fantastic nativity play ‘Born In A Barn’ for the rest of the school and their parents over 3 days. They worked so hard learning their lines and all the songs that were needed for the performance, and delivered a nativity play to be proud of! Photos can be found on our Stormont School Instagram page – @Stormont_School.

The Prep girls held their Christmas carol service last night at Christ Church Little Heath. Each class performed a Christmas song, using both vocal and instrumental accompaniments to showcase their wide range of skills, all co-ordinated by our Head of Music and Drama. The parents enjoyed the performance, and were delighted to have a homemade mince pie made from the School’s kitchen at the end of the service!

Christmas parties have also been in full swing, with the Prep party taking place earlier this week and Pre-Prep eagerly looking forward to theirs today! Everyone has arrived wearing their best Christmas jumper and festive headwear, all ready for a party filled with fun and games.

To round off the events, we have our whole School Christmas lunch next week, where the girls will sit together with all the staff and enjoy a homemade Christmas lunch with all the trimmings! Photos of the delicious meal will be shared on our food Instagram page @Stormont_Schoolfood.

It has been great to see the girls, their families and Stormont staff enjoying the festivities this time of year!

Stormont School Yuletide 2022

Posted: 6th December 22

On Saturday we held our annual Yuletide Christmas fair which was organised by our Stormont Parents’ Association (SPA).  The event was a huge success, with activities taking place across the School. The Pearson Hall contained our stall holders, which included competitions, jewellery, sweets, candles, pottery, Christmas table decorations, homemade crafts, cakes plus many more. We were also delighted to have had a visit from Father Christmas himself, who spent time with the children finding out what was on their Christmas lists this year.  For the first time our Johnson Hall was used which allowed visitors to burn off some of their Christmas energy with bouncy castles, disco domes, as well as shoot the hoop competitions and teacher games.  Our kitchen team provided their delicious homemade food with turkey and stuffing rolls and hot dogs, pictures of which can be seen on our Stormont School Food Instagram page @Stormont_Schoolfood.

We had lovely entertainment by our Stormont singers, who sang melodic carols before the draw of our raffle. We wish to thank all our generous sponsors who kindly donated prizes for the raffle, details of whom can be found on our Instagram page – @Stormont_School – or on our Facebook page – StormontSchool.

It was a hugely successful event, and really got everyone in the spirit of Christmas, ready to start the run of Christmas fun taking place across the School before the end of term!  Thank you to our SPA for all their hard work, and to all our School community for supporting the event, we all had a wonderful time!

U11 Hockey Team Winners

Huge congratulations to our U11 hockey team who competed in the School Games Watford and Hertsmere Hockey Tournament. The Stormont girls played incredibly well and emerged on top, winning the tournament and qualifying for the next round in December. Should we go on to win that tournament, the girls would represent Hertfordshire in the County finals! Very exciting times for the girls!
