McLaren Visit Stormont!

Posted: 23rd March 2023

To continue our term’s theme of ‘Celebrating Women’  we were excited to welcome the ‘Women in STEM Ambassadors’ from McLaren to talk to the girls about engineering, science, and the amazing opportunities these subjects can bring.  These women are involved in designing and testing supercars, and shared their knowledge with the girls. They talked about the details and the process of designing a supercar, thinking through the aerodynamics needed, the stress of speed and movement on parts of the car, the thermal dynamics, as well as safety.

The ambassadors set a challenge for the girls to design their own supercar, and, to help with inspiration, were given a tour of one of their McLaren designs! This was an interactive session, for which the girls were really engaged and very enthusiastic to learn about women in engineering. The girls had some creative ideas, and presented their designs to the Ambassadors, who chose a winner. All girls received a gift from McLaren, which was a lovely touch!

We are continually looking at different ways to inspire the girls for future career choices and opportunities that are on offer, including highlighting the importance of the STEM subjects. Thank you so much @mclaren for coming to visit us at Stormont School, we know you have inspired the next generation of women in STEM!

‘Celebration of the Arts’ Event

Posted: 10th March 2023

What an amazing evening we had last night with our ‘Celebration of the Arts’ event! This is the second year we have held this event, bringing together all the arts that we offer at Stormont in one evening for our families to see what the girls are achieving. Families were treated to an art exhibition in our Pearson Hall, with a wide range of artwork, pottery, textiles and DT that the girls have produced this school year.

Across our music studio, Pre-Prep area and library our families were entertained by girls playing their musical instruments, ranging from piano, violin, guitar, recorder through to the African drums! A selection of girls showed their singing skills, either soloists, duets or trios. Our LAMDA class showcased their individual presentations, and some of our Year 5’s performing their English Speaking Board pieces which they have been practicing ready for their exam next week. We also had on display our salsa club, and some of our parents even joined in and had a go! How brilliant!

Finally, our sports hall was the scene of some of our dancing and gymnastics displays. Our Pre-Prep ballet class were excited to perform to parents, showing how much they have learnt in their ballet class this year. We were also treated to a gymnastics display from our Prep girls, culminating in our award winning girls showing their individual gymnastic routines.

We wish to congratulation all our girls for their contributions to the event last night. It was a fantastic celebration of everything the girls do at Stormont, from artwork, pottery, drama, singing, music, performing and more! We were delighted to share this with the families of the school, who were just as proud of their girls as we were! For more details of the event please visit our social media pages: Facebook – Stormont School, and Instagram: @Stormont_School and @Stormont_SchoolArts.
