IAPS National Netball Finalists!

Posted: 14th February 2023

Congratulations to our Year 6 U11 netball team who have made it to the finals of the IAPS National ‘Bee’ Netball Competition.  ‘Bee’ Netball requires all players to rotate every half, meaning they had to play all positions throughout the tournament. On Friday 3rd February, our U11 Netball Team played in the regional round in Essex and were placed in a group with Kensington Prep, St Aubyn’s, Felsted and Chigwell. We won all of our games and made the quarter finals against NLCS. The girls met Kensington Prep again in the final, but this time narrowly losing by 2 goals.  Finishing as Runners Up in the Cup Competition meant our U11 had qualified for the IAPS National Finals which will be held in Rugby in March! This was a superb result for a superb effort from our girls. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the parents and Miss Sobell who came to support us, we are very grateful to you all.

England Player Football Coaching Comes to Stormont!

Posted: 14th February 2023

To celebrate the ESFA School’s Football week our PE department led a week of footballing activities for girls across the school. Our Pre-Prep girls enjoyed the February sunshine and learnt football skills, practicing their kicking and dribbling technique.

The highlight of the week were our coaching sessions from ex-England and premiership league football players Jack Wilshere and Kieran Richardson for years 4, 5 and 6!  We were excited to invite some boys from Lochinver House School to join us, which they were thrilled about! Year 5 had a brilliant session from Jack Wilshere who is an ex-England and Arsenal player and currently the Arsenal U18 Head Coach. In the session he used his experience to share valuable coaching, organising various football drills and ending with game play. The children all came away very inspired to learn more about the game.

Years 4 and 6 were excited to have Kieran Richardson run a coaching session with them. Kieran is an experienced player, having played for England, Manchester United, Sunderland, Fulham and Aston Villa. He ran a great coaching session for the girls and Lochinver House School boys, sharing with them his knowledge and tactics which culminated in games in which they practiced things they had learnt.

The girls are also entering designs for the front cover of ‘The Women’s Football Magazine’, with the hope of getting their design published on an edition later this year.

We would like to thank Jack and Keiran for their time, coaching tips, and their inspiring words to the future generation of both women’s and men’s football! If you would like to see videos and photos of the coaching, these are available on our sports instagram page @stormont_schoolsports.

Lego, Singing and Sport!

Posted: 3rd February 2023

We have had an action packed week at Stormont! To celebrate International Lego Day we were excited to welcome Mr Sobell in to speak in our assembly about his job at Lego. His assembly was very interactive and informative, with all the girls learning that Lego are the biggest producers of tyres in the world! It has also inspired a generation of ‘Master Builders’ when he confirmed that the majority of the senior positions in the Lego company were held by women, which is building on our term’s theme of ‘Celebrating Women’, showcasing to the girls that the world is their oyster!

Our Year 5 girls took part in the Haileybury Choral competition on Monday against 8 other schools. They spent the afternoon involved in musical workshops, which culminated in the final competition, where they sang their Latin song beautifully. Thank you to Haileybury School for hosting the event and allowing us to be part of the competition.

The School has also been involved in various sporting activities, including running and flier netball. A team of our U9 and U11 girls travelled to Beechwood Park School for a Cross Country event. With over 380 runners in three age groups, it was a huge event and incredibly well organised. Our girls performed very well and should feel incredibly proud of their achievements. A special mention also for two of our U9 runners who finished in 9th place and 13th place! Congratulations to them and to all the girls competing! Our U9 Stormont team finished 5th overall and our U11 Stormont team finished 9th overall.
